An unfortunate incident happened at the Osceola Mine. As I was going in and out of the Osceola gate, I passed a couple of "Flatlanders" (city folk) as they drove through the town of Alleghany. I didn't know it at the time but, they proceeded through the open gate that goes to the Osceola mill and down a spur road where the two gentlemen and their vehicle could not be seen. From there, they hiked down the creek until they ended up in the vicinity of the 16 to 1 mine. Not only did they trespass on several pieces of private property, they even started a small campfire, even though there was a ban on fires in the area. They were found and given a ride into the center of Alleghany (Casey's Place). From there they walked back to their vehicle at the Osceola Mine. On their way out, they found that the Osceola gate was locked (I went to Reno for the day). They asked one of the locals if they had a torch so that they could get the gate open!!! The 16 to 1 office was contacted. The gate was opened, and they were asked to leave the area and to never return. This is the new sign that is replacing one that disappeared last winter. This one is bigger, stronger, and to the point.
